Design Engineer

Survey Crew Chief

This role is primarily focused on supporting Project Managers by taking on internal leadership for site design and layout, including elements like sanitary sewer, water main, pavement, and drainage design. Responsibilities include ensuring adherence to project deadlines set by the Project Manager and collaborating effectively with other team members as needed to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Civil engineering design of commercial, municipal, industrial, education and residential projects including studies, preliminary and final design, permitting, and construction oversight.

• Serves as primary designer on projects and works closely with project manager to assist with various aspects of projects, including preparation of preliminary and final cost estimates, construction plans, contract documents, material specifications.

• Meets regularly with Project Manager to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues, reviews work in progress to anticipate technical problems, and interprets statutes and regulations.

• Responsible for meeting project deadlines, as defined by Project Manager.

• This role requires strong technical knowledge, coordination skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to meet project milestones.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field

• Michigan Civil Engineering, P.E. preferred

• 5+ years of related experience is desired

• Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering and surveying

• Experience with the study, planning, and design of commercial, municipal, education, industrial, and residential projects

• Knowledge of municipal government practices and regulations

• Valid driver’s license

• AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred

• Strong work ethic

AR Engineering has an immediate full-time opening for a Survey Crew Chief.  Responsibilities include field and office work for construction staking, boundary, topographical, ALTA and Plat/Site Condominium. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

• Experience in land surveying preferred

• Experience using Total Station and GPS preferred.

• 18 years of age with valid driver’s license and good driving record

• Willing to work outside in all weather conditions

• Professional behavior and communication

• Strong mathematic aptitude

• Self motivated

• Strong work ethic

• AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred

• Able to work alone and complete tasks within desired timeline

• Ability to lead a crew, explain and teach a survey assistant 

Professional Surveyor

We are seeking a highly skilled and licensed Professional Land Surveyor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a “hands on” leader, responsible for survey-related activities and ensuring the successful execution of projects from start to finish.  You will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, be meticulous in your attention to detail, and possess a commitment to the success of your team and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with management of the survey department including staff, equipment and workload, providing professional and technological direction.

• Develop proposals and estimates for land survey, topographic survey and construction staking clients.

• Oversee and manage land surveying projects ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and regulatory compliance.

• Provide excellent communication between clients, staff, and government agencies.

• Perform survey field work, including site topographic survey, boundary survey and construction staking.

• Prepare and review boundary and topographical surveys, ALTA/ACSM surveys, subdivision plans, and easement exhibits.

• Create legal descriptions and manage survey projects to ensure timely and accurate completion.

• Maintain quality control measures to verify survey data accuracy and completeness.

• Provide guidance on current and emerging surveying technologies and methods.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics or equivalent

• Registration as Professional Surveyor in the State of Michigan
